LOVE YOGA DAY 3: The Power of Ritual

In these uncertain times, rituals can bring a sense of certainty, and building a new routine into your day can bring a new sense of purpose as well as a healthy daily practice to stay well.

This sequence combines music, movement, mantra and meaning to provide a powerful daily practice to help you stay in the light, but focusing on all that is wondrous in nature, and showing thanks for it.

This version of the Gayatri Mantra by Deva Premal has a very special resonance, and when you tune in, and even join in the mantra, you will find that is has a transformative effect.

Do this practise every day for optimum benefit, and before long you will be ready to complete a Yoga Mala – 108 sun salutations.

Please exercise caution with this sequence, as it can be quite vigorous. If you are just starting out, you may want to start with just a couple of rounds done slowly, and build up day by day.

Setting yourself a challenge, and committing to a daily discipline will also help you build “tapas”, motivation to continue. Perhaps set yourself a goal of doing this 21 times first thing in the morning.

It doesn’t have to be 21 consecutive days, just give yourself a little gold star on a chart every time you do it, and this will help you stay positive and motivated about what you are doing.

Of course, give yourself a reward when you have completed the 21 times!!

The Gayatri Mantra in Sanskrit:

Om bhur bhuvah svah

Tat savitur varenyam

Bhargo devasya dhimahi

Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat.

The Gayatri Mantra Translated:

The eternal, earth, air, heaven
That glory, that resplendence of the sun
May we contemplate the brilliance of that light
May the sun inspire our minds.
