Hygge Wednesdays

Hygge Yoga and Meditation

Let’s Get Cosy…..

Give yourself a mid-week treat with this nourishing and nurturing practice, all about self-care, and finding comfort in the midst of chaos.

It’s like getting all the effects of a warm, loving hug, without the need for anyone else, or a special place, apart from the space you create at home.

** Learn the sacred art of self-soothing and how to create your own inner sanctuary

** Discover how to calm the nervous system, induce relaxation and get a good night’s sleep

** Harness the magical power of oxytocin, and how yoga helps

Oxytocin, also known as the “love” or “cuddle” hormone, is just the tonic we need at the moment, for it counters the effects of cortisol, the stress hormone that can be so damaging to our mental and physical health when out of balance.

“Imagine for a moment that someone puts their hand on your shoulder, hugs you, caresses your cheek, or gives you a kiss. How do you feel? A wave of calmness should come over you since a physical touch releases the neurohormone oxytocin, making us feel happier while reducing stress, fear, and pain”.

As well as the touch of another, moments of intimacy, time spent with our pets, there are a number of natural ways we can produce oxytocin, even when we are on our own. Through movement, breath, meditation and other self-care practices, we can lower our cortisol levels, reduce feelings of isolation and begin to feel more balanced and connected again.

So what exactly is Hygge?

Hygge is the secret to health and happiness in Denmark, and is regarded as the most powerful antidote to the winter blues. The closest translation we have here is “the art of cosiness”, but it’s so much more. Think drinking some hot cocoa in front of a roaring fire, with candles and soothing music.

Hygge is also “safety and shielding from the world,” “the absence of annoyance” and the notion that your home is, literally and metaphorically, giving you a hug.

In this class, we will be embracing all that is “hygge” in our yoga practice, with some carefully designed yoga you can do from the comfort of your own home, surrounded by blankets, cushions, candles and aromas –  in your own little “nest”.

To find out more about Hygge, I highly recommend the book “The Little Book of Hygge – Danish Secrets To Happy Living” by Meik Wiking. I met the man himself 3 years ago, and he truly is the real deal!

So join us in the Lemon Studio which is right next to the indoor pool in the main hotel.

The class runs 6-7pm and if you fancy a hot tub under the stars then bring your swimsuit (towels and bathrobes provided)
